SoonerCare Members Can Choose to Renew Benefits Online
OKLAHOMA CITY –Oklahomans who receive their health insurance benefits through SoonerCare (Oklahoma Medicaid) can now renew their coverage online through the Oklahoma Health Care Authority’s new website, mysoonercare.org.
The website was launched Sept. 7 to give Oklahomans – and the public and private agencies who serve them – another way to apply for SoonerCare benefits. They can reach mysoonercare.org through any Internet access provider and use the site to renew coverage, apply for benefits and make changes to their personal information on record.
“This site means a tremendous increase in access and convenience for Oklahomans, since it’s available around the clock. Applying is quick and easy, and most people will know right away if they qualify for services,” said Mike Fogarty, OHCA chief executive officer.
The new website, paid for through a $6.1 million federal grant, has been two years in the making as state agencies worked together to plan, create and test the new application process.
“This also will assist us in our efforts to ‘go green’ and significantly reduce the amount of paper products used to support the application process,” Fogarty said, since hundreds of thousands of Oklahomans apply for the programs each year.
Mysoonercare.org. can be used to apply for SoonerCare, SoonerPlan (a family planning program) and mental health services. If the applicant qualifies, they will be enrolled in the appropriate program.
Current members and new applicants also can apply by going to a partner agency (including the Oklahoma Departments of Human Services, Health, Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, Indian Health Services, the Chickasaw Nation and the Choctaw Nation) for help. Paper applications are still accepted, as well. Previously, all applicants had to visit their local OKDHS office to apply for or renew benefits.
