OHCA Names 2016 T.J. Brickner Award Recipient

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma Health Care Authority (OHCA) recently named Dr. Steven Crawford the recipient of the 2016 Dr. T.J. Brickner Defender of Health Award. The award, named after a founding OHCA board member, serves to recognize a non-state employed individual who is committed to serving low income, uninsured and underinsured Oklahomans. CEO Nico Gomez presented Dr. Crawford with the award during OHCA’s September board meeting.

"If there's anyone that reminds me of Dr. Brickner and the heart that he had for the people that we serve, it's you Dr. Crawford. You are an incredible friend of the agency and a real friend to the people that we serve," said Gomez.

Crawford serves as Chief of Family Medicine Service at the University of Oklahoma Medical Center hospitals, is the Christian N. Ramsey, Jr., M.D. Endowed Chair in Family Medicine and works as both a professor and chair of the OU College of Medicine's Department of Family and Preventive Medicine. He also oversees an academic clinical department that includes two family medicine residency programs and clinics training 60 residents a year, a primary care sports medicine fellowship program and a 27-month Physician Associate master’s level program training 50 students a year. Additionally, he has served as chair of the Board of Trustees of the OU Medical Center, and OHCA's Medical Advisory Committee.

Dr. Crawford joins a handful of people who have been recognized with the Brickner award, including Sen. George Miller, former state representatives Dr. Doug Cox and Calvin Anthony, Mike Dover and Anne Roberts.
