OHCA announces new government relations director

Austin Marshall has joined the Oklahoma Health Care Authority (OHCA) as Director of Government Relations.

He replaces Emily Shipley who has accepted a position with the State Chamber of Oklahoma. As Director of Government Relations, Marshall will be responsible for interfacing with the Oklahoma State Legislature, Governor’s Office, Congressional delegation, and the 39 federally recognized tribes on behalf of the agency. He will be responsible for monitoring state and federal legislation affecting the agency, and will oversee the federally required tribal consultation process on matters related to Medicaid.

Marshall has an understanding of the state’s legislative process, as well as familiarity with public health programs, from his experience as the Legislative and Fiscal Analyst for the Oklahoma Senate Health and Human Services Committee. Prior to that, he was the Director of Research for the United Way of Central Oklahoma and Senate Coordinator for the Journal Record Legislative Report.

Marshall has a Master’s in Public Administration and a Bachelor of Arts, Applied Economics, from the University of Central Oklahoma. He is the vice chairman of the Sunbeam Family Services Young Professionals Board and a member at-large on both the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma Leadership Council and the Oklahoma Child Care Resource and Referral Association. He also volunteers for the Oklahoma City Zoological Society, the Oklahoma Nutrition and Information Exchange Project and the YMCA Youth and Government program.
